When browsing through your social media feed, it can sometimes look like everyone leads a fairytale life but you.
It can put you down, especially when you have to work hard yourself to reach your goals.
Well, you’re not alone! We also get fed up with the sunshine tales on the World Wide Web.
Time to speak out some brutally honest truths about life that we need to face in order to move forward!
It Doesn’t Matter What Others Think
Don’t worry too much what others think about you, as this will only hamper your progress in life.
Don’t try to be like anyone else — embrace who you are. Be your own role model: check out Ashley Graham’s story on how accepting her imperfections was the driving force behind her successful modeling career.
Set out your own vision and goals and don’t let anyone prevent you from reaching them.
Perfection Doesn’t Exist, So Stop Pursuing It
We all have a different definition of perfection. When I moved from Europe to Asia, it struck me how many Asian people try the craziest things to whiten their skin, while in the West we all want to look tanned. It’s just one example of how biased perfection is, so it’s a waste of your time and energy to pursue it.
Don’t Look For Happiness
We’re so caught up in the search for The Big Happiness in Life, that we miss out on the small things that bring us joy: a smile, a kind gesture, a laugh. Enjoy them every day and you’ll automatically find the happiness you were looking for.
Worrying Is Useless
Keep in mind the wise words of Buddhist master Thich Nhat Hanh:
“Worrying does not accomplish anything. Even if you worry twenty times more, it will not change the situation of the world. In fact, your anxiety will only make things worse. Even though things are not as we would like, we can still be content, knowing we are trying our best and will continue to do so.”
Failing Is Necessary To Grow
If you fear failure, you’ll never reach your goals. Failure teaches you valuable lessons — consider it a stepping stone to success.
Don’t forget that all successful people have failed more than they’ve succeeded. Personally, Will Smith’s words on failure were a game-changer for me. Money Won’t Bring You Happiness
Seriously, that new pair of shoes or latest iPhone will only bring you short-term joy. It’s the things you can’t buy that bring true happiness, so set your focus straight. Invest in your relationships rather than in materialistic things.
7. Time Is Money
Realize that time is more valuable than money. You only have one life, so you better make the most out of your time and spend it the way it makes you happy.
Making money is necessary but it doesn’t lead you anywhere if you’re spending your days being unhappy in an office. Don’t let money stand in your way from living your dream life.
You Are Your Best Investment
Again, you only have one shot at life – to be the best version of yourself! Invest in yourself, physically, mentally, and spiritually.
No idea where to start? You can find here what the top three skills are that all successful people possess or what the most valuable career skills of 2018 are.
You Can’t Make Everyone Your Friend
Accept it: you will meet far too many people in your life to make them all like you. We all have different characters, so it’s impossible for all of them to match.
You’re better off with a small circle of true friends than a large amount of Facebook friends you barely know.
Live Now
Today is the only time that matters. Start living in the present and you don’t miss out on anything by worrying about yesterday or tomorrow!
